CCR Breakdown
Hello Cambridge! The second question I will tackle as part of my first Creative Critical Reflection video is "How does your product engage with audiences and how would it be distributed as a real media text?" Based on my film opening and some research I did this is how I will answer this question. I will most likely split up the question to make it less jammed packed that way it's easier for me to answer and easier for my audience to understand my ideas and plans.
1st part:
First I will explain how my product/film opening engages with audiences. It is extremely important for a film to have a target audience and to know how to properly engage with an audience for ultimate viewer satisfaction. The ability to engage with an audience results in positive outcomes like promotion from people's personal recommendations.
Our target audience we aimed for were teenagers and young adults who enjoy thrillers and uncovering the truth. This film opening is meant to go through the first stage of grief, denial, so this film is suitable for both men and woman as it can pertain to anyone going through grief. This is a major part of our storyline, but we specifically added the "replacement Janus" twist to engage our audience from the start by using suspenseful techniques through audio, visuals, and editing.
Creating this compelling narrative about grief allows this target audience to resonate emotionally with our film on a deeper level because of how we chose to film and edit it. Creating a character like Verena who is a teenage girl in denial with her brother passing away gives the audience someone to relate to or empathize with, creating a well rounded immersive experience for my film opening The Seventh Lie. I've come to learn that engaging with the audience is all about balance. Creating impactful shots, angles, suspense to fit thriller conventions, and using audio such as dialogue or music enhances engagement, making the film more impactful.
2nd part:
Then, I will explain how my film opening would be distributed as a real media text. Now that we have discussed my specific audience target and how I tried making it engaging for viewers I will go into distribution which is another key aspect to having a successful film. "Film distribution is the process of making a film available for audience viewing." There are many different ways people distribute a film, however since my film is a smaller and less known film I will attend different film festivals like the Telluride one in Colorado.
To make this film even easier to watch and reach, I can put it onto streaming platforms such as You tube since people mainly on You tube are teenagers and young adults it ties into the audience I am trying to reach. Marketing is another important way for spreading the word about my new film that I will be participating in.
